Billings TrailNet plans to develop a soft surface trail between the upcoming pedestrian underpass at Zimmerman Trail, connecting with Zimmerman Park’s parking lot.

This will be the first section of the Skyline Trail, and will include a restroom, funded by Phillips 66, to be installed at Zimmerman Park this summer.

The entire trail will be on County Park property, and will extend from the underpass which is to be built under Zimmerman Trail this summer. The trail will provide non-motorized access to Zimmerman Park.

This project capitalizes on some projects which will be in the works in early summer.

  1. A roundabout at the intersection of Highway 3 and Zimmerman Trail.
  2. Safety improvements on Zimmerman Trail, which will include some widening, guardrails and
  3. A pedestrian tunnel which will be located under Zimmerman Trail, south of the roundabout, where the south end of the existing guardrail is located.

The Zimmerman Trail safety improvement project is planned to begin May/June and end in August 2018.

Phillips 66 provided $50,000 to build a restroom for the Skyline Trail, and County Parks Board would like to install a restroom at Zimmerman Park.  We will combine the installation of the bathroom, the completion of the pedestrian tunnel and the soft-surface trail, to be the first phase of the Skyline Trail.

We will need volunteers and donations to build this soft-surface trail. If you would like to volunteer please contact us or select this link.
