Thanks to Billings’ Planning Department, the Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee, Billings TrailNet, Downtown Billings Alliance and Atomic Industries, downtown Billings will have Billings-branded bike racks to enable bicyclists traveling downtown to lock up securely.

This project was funded by a grant from the Montana Office of Tourism & Business Development, with matching funds donated by Billings TrailNet, the Downtown Billings Alliance, Pedal United, and Visit Billings.

Originally, these racks were to be plain black rings; however, Billings TrailNet member Alex Hannan, a steel fabricator at Atomic Industries, approached his company with a proposal to design and build racks that depict the city’s Billings brand.

Alex is a cycling enthusiast, and Atomic Industries enthusiastically supports employees wanting to be part of the community and give back. They were happy to help, and now the city has 39 racks which will be installed as businesses apply for them. The application is $50 and the money goes toward maintaining and developing the bike rack program.
