Electrical Consultants, Inc. is BikeNet’s newest corporate member, but they are not new to supporting BikeNet and the trail system.  ECI is also a long time sponsor of Ales for Trails.

When asked why their business has been such a dedicated supporter, Karen McComish, ECI’s Vice President of Corporate Operations, explains that “it started because the trail system comes right behind our office. There is a break in the system and our goal was to help complete the trail network.”

As time went on and Ales for Trails continued to raise money for the trails and became a gathering place for the whole community, ECI increased their donations and bought extra tickets so more people could enjoy the fun during this special event. “Ales for Trails is great fun and provides community awareness of the trail system. People have a really good time,” she says.

ECI became a corporate member in order to promote healthy living and safe activity. Karen reflects on her experience in Billings as a young mother and taking her son on outings on her bike. There were no trails or bike lanes back then, so she had to find quiet neighborhood streets to ride with her infant on the back of her bike, and sometimes would ride on the sidewalk. “It’s more enjoyable to ride with young children when you’re not worrying about cars,” she remembers.

Outdoor activity is good for business, too. Recruiting young engineers can be challenging, and providing easy access to the outdoors helps make Billings attractive. ECI also encourages current employees to use the trail near the business for walking breaks and getting outdoors. “Health insurance has been one of our highest costs in running the business. You have to have healthy employees to have a healthy business,” she explains.
