Blade Stiller, First Federal Bank & Trust
For Blade Stiller, Vice President and Commercial Market Manager at First Federal Bank & Trust, banking is about far more than transactions—it’s about people, relationships, and long-term community impact. In his current role, Blade works directly with business owners to help them access the capital they need to grow. “The lending side is really personal,” he explains. “You’re helping people in ways that can legitimately improve their lives, both professionally and personally.”
That people-first mindset reflects First Federal’s roots as a mutual, community bank. Since 1935, First Federal has operated without shareholders—meaning profits are reinvested directly back into the communities it serves. “When you bank with First Federal, you’re helping invest in the places we all call home,” Blade says.
Although First Federal is based in Sheridan, WY, Blade emphasizes how committed the bank is to Billings. He has been with First Federal for five years and values its streamlined, open-minded culture. “The organization is receptive to employee and community feedback,” he says. “Every staff member has a voice in how we do things and how we deliver a great customer experience.

That approach is backed by strong financial fundamentals. First Federal’s long-standing commitment to sound banking principles has helped protect clients’ money while lending responsibly to businesses and consumers. The bank plays an active role in strengthening communities through financial donations, employee volunteerism, and a strong focus on homeownership—recognizing that stable housing is foundational to thriving communities. Through their Community Commitment Program, they have given to a number of area organizations including Adult Resource Alliance, Partners for Parks, Landon’s Legacy, Tumbleweed, Veterans Navigation Network, and many more.
The care the bank has for its community is also extended to its employees. First Federal prioritizes work–life balance and well-being through benefits like paid volunteer days off and emphasis on education and training. “It’s a sign of a great employer when they’re willing to train and coach people to move up,” Blade says. “When you’re feeling your best, you can be your best for your customers!”
Outside the office, Blade stays active (he loves CrossFit!) and is deeply engaged in the community. He serves as the President of the Board of Directors for Alternatives, Inc. and was a “Big Brother” with Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Yellowstone County. First Federal’s support of Billings TrailNet is a point of pride, and Blade is especially fond of Ales for Trails. “We love it,” he laughs. “I can’t wait to go to the VIP party again.”

As a lifelong Billings resident, Blade has seen firsthand how the city’s trail system has evolved. “Twenty years ago, I mostly remember the trail through Lillis Park on the way to Target,” he says. “Now look at it! I can take my bike almost anywhere I need to go.” Today, he rides throughout much of the community and regularly walks his dog, Rogue, on the trails. His favorites include the Big Ditch Trail and the Skyline Trail.
For Blade, the connection between strong financial institutions, healthy lifestyles, and vibrant communities is clear. Through First Federal’s commitment to integrity, responsibility, teamwork, and service, he sees banking as a way to help people succeed—and to build a stronger Billings for generations to come. We are proud to have First Federal Bank & Trust as a corporate partner!
