The City of Billings recently awarded a construction contract to build the first phase of what is called the Inner Belt Loop. The Inner Belt Loop is ultimately planned to provide a connection from Wicks Lane west and south to the Zimmerman Trail/Highway 3 intersection. The first phase of this project is the construction of the portion that is located west of Wicks Lane (near Harvest Church) to Alkali Creek Road (see illustration below). In addition to a new roadway, the project will also construct a 10’ wide asphalt multi-use trail, similar to what has been built along Zimmerman Trail. This new trail segment will be located on the south side of the new road and will be approximately one mile long. The trail will be on the north side of High Sierra Park and will also provide access to 160 acres of state Trust land.
