Last month, BikeNet put local bike shops and the Billings PD’s Crime Prevention Office in touch with Bike Index, a new open source bike registry app where you can register your bike nationwide.

Developers of the app are currently working with selected bike retailers on a system to automatically register bikes at point of sale. They were looking for up to three cities in the 50K to 200K population range who were interested in piloting a modern bike registration program that takes full advantage of the potential of this app.

Billings took the lead! Red Rover Bicycle Collective and The Spoke Shop have joined the effort, which is also working in conjunction with the Billings Police Department’s Crime Prevention office.

If you already have a bike, you can register your bike yourself by selecting the ADD YOUR BIKE icon on the Index’s home page
