7pm-9pm Film showing
Red Rover, a bike shop on Minnesota Ave., is partnering with the YMCA to promote bicycle awareness, fitness and green transportation. “There is no denying the environmental and health benefits that bicycling inherently entails,” said Sarah Keller, Y member and a Film Festival organizer. “Bicyclists promote a healthy lifestyle using an ecologically sound form of transportation, and that’s a perfect fit for what we believe in at the Y,” she adds.
Brendt Barbur, Founding Festival Director, was compelled to start the Bicycle Film Festival when he was hit by a bus while riding his bike in New York City. He insisted on turning his negative experience into a positive one. In 2001, Barbur started the Festival as a platform to celebrate the bicycle through music, art, and, of course, film.
