“Refresh the Rims!”
October 18, 2014
9 am to 11:30 am
The City of Billings Parks and Recreation is doing a cleanup on October 18th along the rims at an event called Refresh the Rims from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
There will be approximately 100 volunteers doing general cleanup at Swords Rimrock Park as well as the soft surface trails west of the 27th St. roundabout. This year they are testing the use of a commercial vacuum truck to vacuum up the glass on the rims.
Volunteer Coordinator Chris Waite from the City of Billings Parks and Recreation Department needs some pre-assigned volunteers help haul the hose and do the vacuuming.
“It doesn’t require much skill, but I will need to meet with these volunteers in advance to go over where the work will be done, etc,” he assures us. “Since I am the event organizer, I cannot be with the vacuum truck that day so I will need these volunteers to be independent. I was wondering if any BikeNet volunteers are free to help with this,” he adds.
Volunteers will receive a free event t-shirt and the gratitude of the trail users for helping get rid of some of the glass that plagues the area.
To volunteer, please contact Chris and he will make arrangements to meet with you in advance to go over the details, by emailing him at: waitec@ci.billings.mt.us, or calling him at (406) 657-8308.
This project can only accommodate a smaller team on the glass vacuuming task. If more people are interested, they can join one of the general cleanup teams, or graffiti removal teams by signing up at: https://www.billingsparks.org/refresh-rims/
