The City of Billings applied for and was awarded with two AmeriCorps Vistas who will begin a campaign to encourage elementary students to walk and bike to school.
The volunteers, Isaac and Emily, will help children building skills, and work to build a culture of bike riding. This is the first year a project such as this has been attempted in Billings.
The Vista volunteers will encourage kids to wear bike helmets, will develop junior bicycle councils at the schools (which include young school leaders who act as ambassadors; who can act as role models for other children, and who will become familiar with routes and safety measures.
For more information on this program, the Vistas can be contacted directly at plnvista1@ci.billngs.mt.us.
