Please help us welcome Elyse Monat, our new employee who will be working at BikeNet until August 2015. Elyse is an Energy Corps AmeriCorps member whose term of service runs from October 2014 through August 2015.
Elyse is from Indianapolis, Ind., and graduated from Tulane University last May with a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies and Spanish with a minor in Urban Studies. There, she learned about infrastructure of sustainable urban environments, urban planning and transportation, and the science of climate change.
Elyse was an intern with Ride New Orleans (a public transit advocacy organization) and INDYCOG (a bicycle advocacy group).
Her job at BikeNet will be to promote trail use and encourage active transportation in Billings. If you would like to contact her, please send her an email at elyse@bikenet.org or call 406-281-1244.
Part of the funding for Elyse’s position came from a grant provided for assistance with the Active Living Every Day Program.
The Energy Corps AmeriCorps project is an initiative of the National Center for Appropriate Technology (NCAT) in cooperation with The Corporation for National and Community Service that was created to address unmet community energy needs by promoting sustainable energy consumption and education, fostering community sustainability and helping to mitigate the effects of global climate change.
This ties in nicely with BikeNet’s vision of the Billings area as a premier community for healthy lifestyles and active transportation where biking and walking are safe and an integral part of everyday activity.
